Say Yes to a Wild One-Day Adventure
Sometimes the best adventures aren't the ones you've planned for months. Sometimes they're the slightly crazy ideas that make everyone ask, "You're doing what?" That's exactly how we found ourselves boarding an early morning flight from Orlando to New York City with nothing but comfortable walking shoes and a plan to spend one whirlwind day exploring the city before flying home that same night.
And honestly? It was so much fun!
Using the Frontier GoWild! Pass, we booked an early flight from Orlando (MCO) to Newark (EWR), landing around 10:00 a.m. From there, we hopped on the train into Manhattan, ready to squeeze as much adventure as possible into twelve hours.
There was no pressure to "see everything." We are fortunate to have been to the city before, so this day our goal was to simply enjoy the city together.
Our first mission was breakfast.
We grabbed fresh bagels from PopUp Bagels and carried them over to the High Line, one of my favorite places in New York. Sitting on a bench above the busy streets while enjoying fresh bagels in the sunshine felt like the perfect way to begin our day. And, the weather couldn't have been more beautiful.
After our walk, we wandered over to The High Line Hotel for coffee. What an adorable, peaceful courtyard. It felt like a hidden oasis tucked away from the energy of Manhattan. We lingered outside, sipping coffee, taking pictures, and simply enjoying being together.
We shopped at the Chelsea Market, Greenwich Letter Press, went to the biggest and most impressive Starbucks we’ve ever seen, stopped at local parks the public library and took lots of pictures in front of all the beautiful brown stones and walked up and down all the streets.
We made our way to Washington Square Park and happened to visit on NYU graduation day. The park was buzzing with excitement; it was so fun! Graduates in purple gowns posed for photos beneath the iconic arch while families hugged, friends cheered, and celebrations filled every corner of the park.
There was such a joyful energy in the air. Watching so many students celebrate this milestone reminded me how quickly time passes. As I walked through the park with my own daughter, I couldn't help but think about how precious these seasons of life are. It was one of those unexpected moments that made the day even more memorable.
Before we knew it, it was time to head to JFK for our 10 p.m. flight home. We were tired, our feet definitely felt the miles, but our hearts were full.
This trip reminded me that adventure doesn't have to be a week-long vacation or something you've been planning for months. Sometimes it's simply saying "yes" to a spontaneous idea and making the most of one day.
If you're in a season of life where you've been waiting for the "right time" to take that trip, explore a new place, or do something a little outside your comfort zone, consider this your sign. Book the flight. Take the day trip. Say yes to the adventure.
You might be surprised by how much joy can fit into just one day.
Have you ever taken a one-day adventure? I'd love to hear where you went—or where you're dreaming of going next!
